The Rise of Kevin Fustini: From Judoka to Bologna’s Under 15 Top Scorer

“I got into football by chance.” This is confessed, even in a rather naive way, by Kevin Fustini: Italian-Colombian striker, born in 2009, currently playing for Bologna Under 15 by Nicolò Mazzanti, second in the standings in group A with 46 points.

“I practiced judo – remembers the rossoblù footballer – before the gym where I went closed. At that point, I tried different sports but football is what I liked the most: today, for me, it’s simply everything”. The club that made him fall in love was Castenaso Calcio, where he officially started playing in December 2016. After just a couple of seasons in the amateurs, the call came from Spal, where he played for a couple of seasons before moving to Bologna in July 2020.

“I’m definitely feeling good – underlines the current top scorer in group A who scored 21 goals in 20 games -: my relationship with the coach and my teammates is fantastic”. A relationship, that of Fustini with the rossoblù shirt, which led him to conquer the Italian national team as well as giving him the opportunity, this season, to be able to admire up close the talent of Joshua Zirkzee, one of his reference footballers ( “I really like his way of playing”), hoping, one day, to emulate his exploits.

Bologna will take to the field on Sunday (11am) at the ‘Zanti’ stadium against Sassuolo, currently eighth in the standings in group A with 27 points.

Jacopo Sbravati’s Genoa, first in group A with 52 points, will challenge Juventus, third (45 points), at the ‘Ale&Ricky’, while in the round of 16 Torino, Cremonese and Parma – fourth, fifth and sixth respectively with 37, 35 and 34 points – they will have to deal with Pisa at the ‘Cit Turin’, Modena at Nonantola and Napoli at the ‘Kennedy’. In group B, Simone Fautario’s Inter, first with 57 points and reigning Italian champions, will visit Udinese, eighth on equal points (35) with Monza, who will host Como at the ‘Luigi Berlusconi ‘. To conclude, Mattia Scala’s Roma, first in group C with 54 points, will face Bari, tenth (23 points), at the ‘Antonucci’ in an attempt to gain an advantage over Empoli, tied at the top together with the Giallorossi, who will carry out a rest period.

Qualified for the round of 16: Atalanta, Bologna, Cagliari, Empoli, Fiorentina, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Milan and Roma.

The top five from groups A and C and the top six from group B advance to the round of 16.
