The Port Authority of Seville installs 266 LED luminaires to improve its energy efficiency |

The Port Authority of Seville (APS) has started work around the ‘Puerta del Mar’ lock to replace the old high-pressure sodium public lighting lamps with new, more efficient LED technology luminaires. In total, there will be 266 lighting points whose lamps will be modernized throughout the port area.

This action will involve an investment of 357,191 euros aimed at promoting “the energy transition and more efficient and sustainable energy management”, as reported by the president of the Port Authority of Seville, Rafael Carmona.

The works include, in addition to the aforementioned lock area, the Armamento and Batán Norte docks, facilities between the Lock road and the Astilleros industrial estate, and two sections of the El Copero road. These are those of the Dársena del Cuarto near the Haribéricas company and at the access to the Euroports Coal Port Port Operations terminal. In the case of the AP-12 Polygon, the area between Astilleros and the Lock road, the LED luminaires will be installed with recharging through photovoltaic panels and nighttime operation backup.

In addition to the change of LED luminaires, with this work, the Port of Seville aims to increase information on energy consumption in all locations of the Port’s public lighting. For this reason, five remote management systems will be implemented to monitor lighting levels and automatically detect faults in the luminaires without having to wait for the warning or telephone report from the night assistance services.

Specifically, the luminaires have highly energy efficient LEDs, with a color temperature range between 3,000 and 4,000 K (degrees Kelvin) that allow, compared to traditional yellow light, better vision in traffic and night work. In addition, the new lamps are equipped with electronic power supplies of variable and controlled power that allow electricity consumption to be further improved based on the weather.

Divided by zones, the lock will have 66 new LED lamps; the Armament dock, with 23; the Batán Norte dock, with 86; the Polígono de Astilleros, with 38; the section of the El Copero road near the Cuarto dock, with 10; and finally, access to the Euroports Coal Port Port Operations terminal, with 43. For its part, the five remote management systems will be installed in the Lock, Armament and Batán Norte, respectively.

This action is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and the NextGeneration EU Funds, within the line of reinforcement of Environmental Sustainability of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
