On Thursday, the outfits that women and men athletes will wear for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were unveiled by the Nike brand. And that of women arouses real controversy.

Clearly, the athletes’ outfits for the Paris 2024 Olympics are (also) controversial. Ugly”, “toothpaste color”, “horrible”, some Internet users on social networks did not go out of their way to criticize the outfits that the French athletes will wear. But this time, it is the outfit of American athletes that is being singled out. Unveiled by the Nike brand, the outfit is considered too low-cut.

“If this outfit was truly beneficial to physical performance, men would wear it. This is an outfit born from patriarchal forces that are no longer welcome or necessary to bring attention to women’s sports. Stop making things harder for half the population.”said Lauren Fleshman, former American 5000 meter champion after explaining that “professional athletes should be able to compete without having to devote brain space to constant pubic vigilance or the mental gymnastics of exposing every vulnerable part of one’s body”.

While the Nike brand defends itself by confirming that the athletes were able to test the outfits before the official presentation, Queen Claye, specialist in the 100m and 400m hurdles, added a layer ironically evoking a partnership with a brand… hair removal.
