Next Saturday, April 20, the Monesterio Municipal Football Stadium will become a place of coexistence and reunion for more than 200 people linked, since its origins, to the yellow club. Half a century has passed since, in 1973, the board of directors of that time decided to federate the club and thus submit to the guidelines of the Extremadura Football Federation.
The initiative comes from the Municipal Football School. “We have had the idea of bringing together our old glories for a long time and, now that the 50th anniversary is being commemorated, we thought it would be the best time.” José Carlos Pizarro, school monitor, and former Monesterio soccer player, explains the reason that moved them. to organize an activity of these characteristics.
The official presentation of this day of coexistence took place in the studios of the municipal radio station, ‘Radio Monesterio’. They attended the appointment themselves Pizarro, accompanied by the legendary former players and coaches José Vasco, Juan Ortega and Manuel Cardoso. He participated by telephone the legendary Julián, ‘Rito’one of the greats of the 1960s, emigrated to Catalonia and, like many of his former club teammates, will return to Monesterio to participate in this tribute to local football. At 81 years old, he will once again wear the colors of ‘Mone’, and “it will be in that match when I will retire permanently.” He states with a sense of humor.
‘Legends that unite us’
After several months of work and after having the support of the city council, (owner of the Municipal Stadium), the organizers have created a very active WhatsApp group, with a list of a hundred followers. Almost all of them (former players and coaches) have committed to being present at this collective tribute. ““Some will play and others will accompany us and wear the commemorative shirt for the official photo,” explains José Carlos Pizarro. To this list are added almost another hundred guests, “who are part of the boards of directors that have directed CP Monesterio during the last decades,” says Pizarro, very excited about this project that is advertised with the motto, ‘Legends that unite us’.
The activity, which also has the support of the AMPA ‘El llano’, It will begin at 10 in the morning, with the dispute of matches between the children belonging to the teams of the mothers and fathers association. At 10:45 a.m., it will be the turn of the Benjamins and Alevines teams from the Municipal School. The most anticipated moment is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., when the legends of CP Monesterio will take to the field.
Those attending the presentation of the activity have highlighted the “success” of bringing together the yellow family again in a day that is expected to be very fun, but, above all, of “pleasant coexistence”, where they can share “the kind moments ” lived in different eras, by those who have had the privilege of belonging to the club. A well-deserved tribute for all “those who will be here and those who are no longer among us,” remarks Julián ‘Rito’.
