The L’Équipe channel and Skweek towards the breakup

The L’Équipe channel and Skweek are over. According to a source close to the matter, the channel sent a termination letter this Wednesday to FedCom Media, which publishes the digital platform, broadcasting Betclic Élite matches since the start of the 2023-2024 season. “The Team bears the production costs alone and this is no longer possible. This is why the group sent this termination letter,” explains this source.

This twist could also call into question the contract signed for five years (and two optional years) last year between the L’Équipe group, which sublicenses broadcasting rights to Skweek, with the National Basketball League ( LNB).

For several weeks, the defaults or delays in payment by FedCom, with the L’Équipe group as well as with the Euroleague – for the rights to the Euroleague (and the Eurocup) – or with Asvel (partnership) were at issue. center of concerns of the different actors. Meeting this Wednesday in a general assembly, the National League will, if this termination is confirmed, have to quickly find a replacement broadcaster for the end of the season and possibly for subsequent seasons.

No broadcast for Roanne-Monaco

Oleg Petrov, boss of FedCom Media, was present at the League’s AGM to reiterate his promises of financial regularization of the situation made at the end of March in Le Parisien. “Without concrete commitments,” whispered several participants while the LNB was also growing impatient.

In an email sent to clubs on Wednesday evening, the League confirmed the non-broadcast of Roanne-Monaco a few hours later. “We are undergoing this dispute between Skweek and L’Équipe which is facing significant payment delays and whose decision we understand”, writes the LNB which says it is “doing everything possible” to find a solution and guarantee the broadcast of the matches until the end of the season.
