“Having a trainer there is so important,” Piek continues about the importance of Fischer Nielsen’s presence. “He directs and motivates us. Before his arrival, the two of us had to go to a tournament this season. That is quite overwhelming, especially when you see that competitors had a team with up to ten specialists. A huge difference in terms of professionalism .”
Mandatory relationship
In addition to the struggles surrounding a trainer, Piek also had difficult moments with her badminton partner Tabing. “As a badminton duo you are forced into a mandatory relationship and that is quite intense. I saw him more often last year than his own girlfriend. You travel from tournament to tournament and you experience good and less good moments together.”
