It’s impossible to truly quantify where Chelsea would be in the Premier League table had they not signed Cole Palmer in August – but there is no question they would have been worse off.

Palmer leads Chelsea in season in virtually every positive metric measured by Opta – goals, assists, total shots, shots on target, shot conversion rate, expected goals, chances created, expected assists, and minutes played per goal. Number one in them all.

There is also no player who has contributed to a greater portion of his team’s goals in the Premier League this season. Palmer has 29 goal involvements (20 scored, nine assisted) out of the 61 Chelsea as a team have registered. That is a 47.5% share, which have directly involved Palmer.

Second in the table is Ollie Watkins, who has also been directly involved in 29 goals for his Aston Villa side (scoring 19 and assisting 10). The rest of the Villa team have pulled their weight more however, scoring 68 as a collective – leaving Watkins with a 42.6% involvement share.

Third place, if you are interested, goes to Dominic Solanke. The Bournemouth striker has been directly involved in 20 of their 47 league goals (17 scored, plus three assists), also counting for 42.6% of their successes.
