The IES La Orden Badminton Club expanded its legend this Saturday by achieving its ninth title of champion of the Top 10 Iberdrola, the highest national club competition, after beating CB Rinconada Sevilla in a heart-stopping final. This concluded with the score tied for victories and was decided by the point difference.

The people from Huelva started with an advantage after winning the first leg in the corner fiefdom by 3-4. The Seville team also achieved a narrow victory in the second leg, after taking a favorable 1-4 in a match that has been marked by maximum equality between both clubs. Of course, the double victory of the Albiazul team in the last two individual duels ended up equaling the overall result, so the title ended up being decided by a difference of 29 points (439-410).

The second leg of the final began on a splendid Saturday afternoon and with an unbeatable atmosphere at the Andrés Estrada Sports Center in Huelva. From very early on, hundreds of people from Huelva wearing albiazule t-shirts crowded into the Andrés Estrada Pavilion to encourage their team. At the same time, the vast majority carried blue and white applauders distributed throughout the stands that encouraged a fan that vibrated with the presentation of their team. The visiting team was not alone either. Around fifty fans from La Rinconada came to the pavilion with horns and drums to try to make as much noise as possible in a venue that had a deafening atmosphere.

Paco Ojeda’s pupils started strongly, opening the scoring of the second leg. Haideé Ojeda and Pablo Abián displayed their best game to beat Carlos Piris and Claudia Leal by 11-10, 11-9 and 11-9. The Sevillian duo did not lower their arms at any time, going ahead in several phases of the match, but a plugged-in Pablo Abián was in charge of driving away the ghosts and together with Haideé they gave the Huelva team the first point.

The intensity of the match quickly increased in level with the women’s doubles. The Huelva team reinforced its duo by pairing Haideé Ojeda and Vivien Sandorhazi, who stood up to Beatriz Corrales and Claudia Leal, but the corner players repeated the victory of the first leg by 7-11, 7-11 and 10-11.

High tension was the men’s doubles duel starring Javier Suárez and Alejandro Pérez against Carlos Piris and Jaume Pérez. The albiazul duo tried to repeat the victory achieved in the first leg and fought hard for each point but it was not enough, as the Sevillian couple also pulled out all the stops to win by a tight 8-11, 9-11 and 10-11, overtaking the visiting team in the locker. Nerves were beginning to invade Andrés Estrada due to the increasingly real possibility of a visitor comeback.

In the first singles round, Sacha Leveque, the men’s number one of the Sevillian team, beat Álvaro Morán in three sets, who did not make it easy for him but also failed to contain the Frenchman (5-11, 7-11 and 7-11) , which increased the advantage of the corner players. On the other court, Telma da Silva and Beatriz Corrales were involved in another heart-stopping clash, as Corrales started winning but the Portuguese, who said goodbye to IES La Orden in this match, managed to come back in the next two games. Of course, the Rinconada player from Madrid did not give up and kept her team’s hopes up after a final of maximum tension (6-11, 11-8, 11-10, 8-11 and 10-11). The support that the public and her own colleagues gave to Da Silva was one of the most emotional moments of the day.

With 1-4 favorable for the corner players, the title was going to be decided in the last two singles. The fast-track victory of Vivien Sandorhazi against Laura Molina by 11-2, 11-0 and 11-5 and Pablo Abián’s victory over Thomas Fourcade by 11-5, 11-7 and 11-1 were decisive for the people from Huelva They will lift their ninth champions cup. The Hungarian player, on whom a good part of the title options depended, completed a great match to leave Pablo Abián as the final protagonist of the match, as he sealed the final so that Recreativo IES La Orden could lift the ninth title in its history.
