Cepsa has signed an agreement with Evos, a liquid energy and chemical products storage company with several centers in strategic locations in Europe, to allow the storage of green methanol, which Cepsa will produce, at the Evos facilities in Algeciras and Rotterdam.

The collaboration, which also provides for the storage of green ammonia at the Evos facilities in Algeciras, facilitates the logistics for the transport of products derived from green hydrogen between strategic ports in Spain and the Netherlands. Cepsa and Evos will also jointly study the logistics of biofuels (for example, sustainable aviation fuel), renewable fuel of non-biological origin and hydrogen carriers, such as liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) at other terminals in the Evos network in northwest Europe, including Amsterdam.

The agreement was signed today in the port of Amsterdam in the presence of the Dutch Minister of Climate and Energy Policy and Deputy Prime Minister, Rob Jetten.

Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Cepsa, said: “Through strategic alliances, Cepsa is building a supply network for green molecules that extends from Spain to northern Europe. This alliance with Evos provides crucial storage infrastructure that will enable the flow of green methanol produced in southern Spain to northern Europe, reinforcing the viability of our large-scale green hydrogen projects. Last year we announced the development of one of the largest green methanol projects in Europe as part of our Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley and this new alliance provides us with the comprehensive solution to bring these green molecules to our customers in northwest Europe, allowing us support decarbonization efforts across the continent.”

Harry Deans, CEO of Evos, said: “As Evos expands its reach into the green import corridors of North West Europe and drives the growth of our Algeciras terminal in Spain, we are delighted to join forces with Cepsa to provide basic infrastructure capable of accelerating the energy transition. “This collaboration will lay the foundations for a south-north corridor for green hydrogen products, perfectly aligning with the strategy of our eight terminals, located in strategic ports, to lead the energy transition in collaboration with our customers.”
