Yesterday, Sunday, the Goanna Pro-Memorial Championship Peter Gulley of Tapia de Casariego presented the prizes to the absolute winners, who turned out to be Saioa Ortega Gallastegui in the Iberdrola Fesurfirng League and Rubén Vitoria in the surfing.es League. After a festival full of surprises due to storm surge warnings (Thursday’s day had to be suspended), finally the heats on Friday, Saturday and Sunday could be held without setbacks.
166 surfers participated in the tests. The organization distributed 35 prizes: the first four in the different categories and the awards to the three best tandem-surf couples. In the absolute events, in the women’s league the first four recognitions were won, in order, by Saioa Ortega, Carla Morera, Martina Escobar and Sol Borrelli. In the men’s category, the first places, also in order, went to Rubén Victoria, Conor Donegan, Dylan Donegan and Néstor García.
In the women’s under-21 category, Saioa Ortega Gallastegui won the first prize, followed in points by Gonzalez, Kenia Lopez and Sara Romero. In the same category, but male, the awards went to Nestor Garcia, Markel Vizcarguenaga, Manuel Fernandez and Alejo Ferreiro.
Sol Borrelli, Saioa Ortega, Martina Escobar and Nora Álvarez were the best surfers, in order, of the tapiegas events in the female under-18 category. In the men’s category, Fernando Ibarra, Alfonso Suárez, Alejandro Sancho and Mateo Vázquez stood out, taking the first four places. In women’s under-16, Sol Borreli, Carla Morera, Nora Álvarez and Daniela Alonso took, in order, the first four places. In the same category, but for men, Álvaro Casanova, Alejo Valido, Dylan Donegan and Alejo Linares were awarded.
The organization awarded the highest award of the International Tandem-surf Open to the Spaniards Fernando and Angie. Second place went to the French Mika and Carine and third to the also French Jon and Christelle.
The day closed with the traditional tribute to Peter Gulley, the Australian surfer to whom Tapia de Casariego owes his passion for surfing.
