I Los Angeles Lakers are dealing with the last regular season matches and the subsequent Play-In, however the NBA is never focused on the present and on the yellow-purple future some cloud stands out on the horizon: the player option Of LeBron James e D’Angelo Russell.
Brian Windhorst addressed the issue during the latest episode of his podcast “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective. According to ESPN’s insider, the four-time he may decide to opt out of his contract. The reason? The insertion of a no-trade clause in the agreement. In fact, the clause cannot be inserted in a salary extension but only in a formulation: «There are many reasons why LeBron could ask for it and it will probably be granted to him.»
In the summer of 2022 James signed a two-year, $97.1 million extension with player option for the 2024/25 season. For Windhorst – report from last February – LeBron is aiming for a multi-year contract (at least three) at higher figures than the current ones. How superior? According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report il Chosen One could aspire to a three-year contract worth 162 million dollars.
Also D’Angelo Russell – omnipresent among rumors that preceded the trade deadline – will have to decide whether or not to exercise the player option present in the two-year 37 million dollar deal signed last summer. ESPN’s insider believes that DLo will exit the contract, to try to monetize the excellent season played so far.
