Edwards of The Athletic revealed the future of the Italian talent, underlining the importance of Fontecchio in the Pistons roster. “Detroit needs 2-3 Fontecchio, I’m 99% sure he will sign an agreement to stay in the Motor City,” commented the journalist. Fontecchio, on the other hand, will become a “restricted free agent” at the end of the season, a situation that would allow the Pistons to match any offers arriving from other franchises.

Simone Fontecchio’s growth has been quite remarkable this season, culminating in the achievement of a very important goal. Mark 41 appearances as a starter, or 2000 minutes on the court, or an average between the two factors, unlocks the so-called “ownership criterion” in the NBA, which raises the salary by approximately 2 million dollars.
