The first star names for the WC in the Czech Republic. The journalist confirmed the strength of Canada and the USA

The basic part of the overseas NHL is not over yet, but the names of hockey players who should arrive at the World Championships in Prague and Ostrava in May are starting to pop up.

“I hear that Canada and the United States will be well represented at the upcoming world championships,” he wrote on social network X journalist Andy Strickland.

According to his information, Canada, which will play against the Czech Republic in the Prague group, should be represented by Connor Bedard and Jordan Binnington.

Eighteen-year-old Bedard pays for the rising superstar of world hockey. In a weak Chicago, he collects almost a point per game in his rookie season.

Goalkeeper Binnington significantly contributed to the triumph of St. Louis in the 2019 Stanley Cup. In the current regular season, he returned to his former form after weaker years. He catches most of his team’s games and has a success rate of over 91 percent.

Seth Jones, Brady Tkachuk, Trevor Zegras and Luke Kunin should play for the Americans, who are waiting for the Ostrava group.

The stellar, but with an annual salary of 9.5 million dollars, according to many, overpaid defender Jones has already played at the senior World Cup three times, winning bronze in 2015.

Brady Tkachuk, the younger brother of the equally stellar Matthew, is known for his tough play on the edge of the rules in addition to his great productivity as Ottawa’s captain.

In the current year, Zegras is also struggling with injuries – he scored only 12 points (5+7) in 28 races. Otherwise, he is considered one of the most skilled hockey players in the world.

Strickland’s information about the “good representation” of Canada and the US is not surprising.

The general manager of the American national team, Bill Guerin, told the players some time ago that if they receive an invitation to the Czech Republic, they should not refuse it, with regard to the tournament of four countries in 2025 and the Winter Olympics in 2026. The World Cup is supposed to serve as a kind of audition for these tournaments.

“I want to see determination. And if a trip to the Caribbean is more important to someone than the World Cup, then he is not exactly twice determined,” pointed out Guerin.

Canada is taking a similar approach.

The WC starts on May 10. Therefore, not only players who do not advance to the fight for the Stanley Cup, but also those who are eliminated in the first round can take part in it in its entirety.

There should be no shortage of other interesting names.
