Magic, The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh and One Piece – these are just a few of the big names in the so-called trading card games, i.e. trading card games that have enjoyed enormous popularity not only among collectors for almost three decades. Trading cards that show pictures and autographs of professionals from the world of sports also achieve utopian sales prices on the collectors’ market. The best example here is the trading card of the American baseball legend Mickey Mantle from 1952, which was sold at an auction by the Heritage auction house for 12.6 million US dollars.
