This is a subject that does not make anyone stand up on their feet as both interested parties are eagerly awaited: the installation of peacocks at the Promenades d’Alençon park (Orne).
Their arrival was announced for the end of the year, but it is ultimately “soon”, this spring, that the two birds will be able to display their large feathers during their wheels.
“These are wild animals, so we had to wait for health authorizations for their establishment, but the prefectural services gave their agreement last week,” said Mayor Joaquim Pueyo.
I would like their arrival to be the subject of a small ceremony and it will undoubtedly be a symbolic moment for our City as they are so eagerly awaited.

Alençon and its Parc des Promenades lost their mascot last summer. The one who was baptized Léon died on July 25, 2023.

“The peacock represents positive things”
In November, a vote launched on the Facebook page “You know that you are from Alençon when…” was unanimous: Léon the peacock must have one (or more) successor(s)!
“The peacock represents positive things. It is therefore normal for residents to react,” declared Joaquim Pueyo, the mayor of Alençon, during the municipal council meeting of December 11, 2023 during which he confirmed the return of two peacocks to the Promenades d’Alençon park.
And what will they be called?
These two arrivals were made possible thanks to the Écouves animal park. “We will welcome them as appropriate,” Joaquim Pueyo promised.
