Tennessee Judge Rules in Favor of Ja Morant’s Self-Defense Immunity in Altercation Case

A Tennessee judge has ruled that Ja Morant has a presumption of innocence under Tennessee’s self-defense immunities law and that Josua Holloway’s lawyers are tasked with proving he did not act in self-defense.

The altercation occurred during a friendly basketball game in July 2022 during which Joshua Holloway, 17 at the time, was upset after losing several games and out of frustration, threw a ball in the Memphis player’s face . That’s when Holloway allegedly took a step toward Morant and punched him.

Morant was suspended for the first 25 games of the season by the NBA after a video showing the star player holding a gun was posted on social media.

The trial which had been scheduled for the beginning of April will be moved to a later date.
