Taymara Oropesa from Holguín, the best Cuban badminton player, will face a demanding challenge starting this Wednesday in the Pan American Sports Championshipwhich hosts Guatemala until the 13th.

In the tournament, which will conclude the Olympic qualifying process in America, Oropesa will seek to add points for the world ranking and maintain its chances of qualifying for the Paris-2024 event.

Taymara will begin her participation in the round of 32, against none other than the local Nikte Alejandra Sotomayor, whom she defeated last March, for first place in the XXII Giraldilla International Tournament in Havana, in three hard-fought sets.

At that time, the Holguin native, bronze medalist at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, and winner of the silver medal at the Central Caribbean event in San Salvador, both last year, achieved 1,700 points in her ranking.

The Oropesa appears in 15th place on the tournament registration list, whose main figures are the American Beiwen Zhang, number 10 in the world, and the Canadian Michelle Li (17) and the Brazilian Juliana Viana Vieira (48)

The competition on Guatemalan fields will award seven thousand points for the world list to those who succeed in each of the five events, and whoever advances one round must accumulate more than a thousand units.
