Swanson homers; Decimated Cubs beat Astros 4-3
CHICAGO – Dansby Swanson hit a three-run homer during a four-run first inning, and the shorthanded Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros 4-3 on Wednesday.
Without Cody Bellinger, Chicago used Swanson’s bat and a good start from Jameson Taillon to achieve its second victory. They will seek the sweep of the three-game series this Thursday.
Taillon (2-0) allowed two runs – one earned – as well as seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked a pair in his second start since starting the season on the disabled list with a strained back.

Houston lost for the seventh time in eight games. He has scored a grand total of 21 runs during this losing streak.
The setback fell to Spencer Arrighetti (0-3), who allowed seven hits, struck out seven and walked two rivals.
For the Astros, Venezuelan José Altuve was 1-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Cuban Yordan Álvarez 5-1. The Dominicans Yainner Díaz 4-1, Jeremy Peña 4-2. Puerto Rican Víctor Caratini went 2-1 with one scored.
For the Cubs, the Dominicans Christopher Morel 3-1 with one run scored, Alexander Canario 3-1.
