MONTEGRANARO – Third defeat of the season for Svethia Recanati, the second in a row with the yellow and blues surrendering to the Bombonera of Montegranaro 73-65 at Sutor. The match was partly similar to the one on Saturday in Perugia with Recanati never managing to find rhythm in attack and in the final point by point they succumbed to a stubborn Sutor eager to have their say again in the playoff race.
Bombonera packed in every seating order and hot as per tradition for a match that has all the appearances of a playoff clash. Lots of balance right from the initial ball, the Veregrensi make use of Errera’s physicality, Svethia starts well with Reimundo with the usual Clementoni who uses three personnel to set the score at 16-20. Two points from Gasparini at the siren and a fourth that eclipses Svethia at 18-20. Ready to go and the second ten minutes open with a 5-0 break signed by the winger duo Quinzi-Nessi. Resmini and Pozzetti make it 23-23 then it goes point for point until the break (29-29).
The music doesn’t change after the long pause, Reimundo opens but Quinzi responds from the bow, a flash from Clementoni to which Nessi replies again. Marchioli for 47-45 Sutor at the end of the third set, postponing any verdict to the last ten very tight turns of the clock. Four consecutive points from Gurini allow the Leopardi players to reach +5 (47-52) but first Errera and then Marchioli re-establish parity with a three-point play (52-52). Clementoni-Quinzi back and forth and the scoreboard says 55-55 at 5’45” from the gong. Triple by Andreani (55-58), Quinzi again with the clock stopped before the two points from Reimundo and the bomb from the inspired Passarini (60-60).
Recanati no longer finds the way to the basket, Passarini and Messi again for the +7 Sutor (67-60), Gurini’s bomb at 69-65 but it is now too late with the glacial Sutor from the line. It ends 73-65 for coach Coen’s boys who deservedly reach 32 points and will play their remaining chances of reaching the post season in Saturday’s match in Gualdo.
For Svethia the regular season closes on Sunday at 6pm at the PalaCingolani-Pierini with the already relegated Taurus Jesi and then dives headlong into the playoffs starting on Sunday 21st.
