Füllkrug’s goalless curse
After the defeat against Stuttgart, BVB’s minimum goal is in danger – also because Niclas Füllkrug is currently unlucky in front of the goal. Will his loading jam become a problem? “Emergency solution” Füllkrug develops into a regular force
“He (Füllkrug; editor’s note) came in the summer as a kind of emergency solution and so far he has more than exceeded these expectations,” says SPORT1 reporter Sedlbauer in the latest edition of the SPORT1 podcast Die Dortmund-Woche.
Eleven goals and eight assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances speak for themselves, says BVB reporter Oliver Müller: “Füllkrug is incredibly important for the BVB game this season. Without him, reaching the Champions League would probably no longer be an issue – in a negative sense. The game against Stuttgart wouldn’t have been pleasant for any striker, and he’s also lacking a bit of luck at the moment.” “That’s what Serhou Guirassy has,” adds Sedlbauer.
And indeed: While Füllkrug and Guirassy had the most shots on goal in the game (four), the Stuttgart player scored well and increased his goal tally (24 league goals; one assist). In any case, the top striker is something of a BVB bogeyman, as the 28-year-old scored in all three of Dortmund’s defeats of the season against VfB.

Moukoko and Haller “no real alternatives”
Füllkrug’s working day against Stuttgart ended in the 81st minute. Sébastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko came onto the field in the hope of creating more of a goal threat. “Both of them are currently not a real alternative for Füllkrug,” says Sedlbauer and continues: “Haller has never really reached his performance level after his cancer and Moukoko was also unable to convince in his two appearances at the beginning of the year. Even though unfortunately he rarely gets a chance.”
Müller sees it similarly, and he is sure: “Something will definitely happen in this position in the summer, because in Dortmund they cannot be satisfied with the current situation in the attack.” “Even if you consider that the three of them add up to around 20 -Earn a salary of 25 million euros per season,” adds Sedlbauer.
