Next victory at the favorite tournament: Greek tennis professional Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Masters in Monte Carlo for the third time after 2021 and 2022.

The 25-year-old clearly beat Norwegian Casper Ruud, who still has to wait for his first Masters title, 6:1, 6:4 in the final. Tsitsipas, who beat Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 and Australia Open winner Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, gave Ruud no chance in the first set. The second round was more even, but Tsitsipas converted the first match point.

The Greek clay court specialist struggled with his form for a long time following his last Monte Carlo title, but has performed strongly so far this year. Ruud, on the other hand, missed out on the winner’s prize money of almost 920,000 euros and the first major title of his career. The 2023 French Open finalist was unable to gild his surprising semi-final victory over world number one Novak Djokovic.

Zverev misses double title in Monte Carlo

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev missed his first doubles title on the ATP tour in five years in Monte Carlo. The Hamburger lost alongside the Brazilian Marcelo Melo in the final against the Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Veilen 7:5, 3:6, 5:10. Zverev has to wait for his third tournament victory in doubles. He won the titles in Montpellier 2017 and Acapulco 2019 with his older brother Mischa.

In the doubles final, Zverev and Melo laid the foundation for winning the first set with a break to 6:5. In the second round they were behind from the start, and things quickly looked bad for the German and his experienced partner in the match tiebreak. Despite great resistance, the two found no remedy against Gille/Vlichen, who converted their second match point.
