Monte Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas continues to win in Barcelona. The Greek defeated Sebastian Ofner 6:4 and 7:5 and moved into the round of 16.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has regained his confidence on clay
Stefanos Tsitsipas against Sebastian Ofner – that already happened last year in Roland-Garros. At that time, Ofner had worked his way into the main field through qualification and into the round of 16, while Tsitsipas started as one of the favorites for the title. The latter is also the case in Barcelona this year, alone: Due to his strong preseason, Ofner is now in the main draw at all tournaments.
In the Catalan capital, the Austrian number one defeated Pavel Kotov in three sets at the start; Tsitsipas started with a bye. But the two-day break after his third championship in Monte-Carlo didn’t hurt the Greek. However, Ofner had his chances – especially in the second set. He immediately equalized the break to make it 2:3 and was on equal terms with his opponent.
Nadal fails because of de Minaur
Not only that: After another break, Ofner was only two points away from equalizing the set at 5:3. Instead, Tsitsipas managed the rebreak and made it 6:5. In the end, the favorite prevailed 6:4 and 7:5. After Sebastian Ofner was able to fend off two match points.
In the round of 16, Stefanos Tsitsipas will now play against local hero Roberto Carballes Baena, who somewhat surprisingly defeated Lorenzo Musetti 7:6 (4) and 6:4.
Rafael Nadal, however, was eliminated. The record champion from Barcelona had to admit defeat to Alex de Minaur 5:7 and 1:6. It was probably Nadal’s last appearance at one of his favorite tournaments.
