Serie A: Inter-Cagliari 2-2 LIVE on the pitch – Football

Inter-Cagliari ends 2-2 Goals from Thuram, Calhanoglu, Shomurodov and Viola

Inter wastes Milan’s assist, allowing Cagliari to come from behind twice: at San Siro it ends 2-2 and in a week the Nerazzurri will only have to win to become Italian champions with five matchdays to spare. A strange evening for Simone Inzaghi’s men, unable to close the game despite taking the lead twice. Also thanks to Claudio Ranieri’s team, who never gives up even in the toughest moments and in the final even comes close to scoring a coup, still managing to gain a fundamental point for the fight for survival.

A draw which for Inzaghi also means the end of the dream of the championship points record, given that even if he wins all the next matches he will not be able to go beyond 101 (the record remains with Conte’s Juventus in 2013/14 with 102). Inter, driven by a sold-out San Siro for the umpteenth time this season and also ahead of former players Onana and Handanovic as well as FIFA president Infantino, immediately took possession of the match, with Cagliari closing in on their own area.

The first opportunity comes on the right of the great former Barella, whose volley is blocked by Scuffet. The Sardinians, however, do not stand by and watch, in fact on the counterattack they sting whenever they can, especially with Luvumbo, who comes close to scoring with a nice left-footed shot that goes just wide. As soon as they can, however, Inter pass: Darmian throws Sanchez on the edge of offside, a low cross for Thuram who unlocks the result from two steps. Even with the lead, however, the Nerazzurri gave the impression of a certain defensive fragility, granting dangerous counterattacks to Luvumbo and Shomurodov which did not materialize only due to the inaccuracy of the rossoblu attackers. Even if Barella seems to find the second goal with a nice header, starting from an offside position. The second half opens with a flying left-footed shot from Dimarco that Scuffet dives to put in the corner, just as the rossoblu goalkeeper is attentive to a poisonous free kick from Calhanoglu and a dirty right-footed shot from Sanchez. However, Cagliari’s equalizer came out of nowhere: a long ball for Luvumbo, a touch for Shomurodov who beat Sommer with his right foot, silencing San Siro. Sanchez immediately came close to taking the lead again, but his header went just wide. Inter thus began to push again and found the opportunity to take the lead on a penalty, after a touch from Mina following Frattesi’s header: Calhanoglu made no mistake from the spot and brought the Nerazzurri back ahead. Game on ice? Far from it, because Cagliari has the strength to react again and find a new equalizer with Viola, who takes advantage of Acerbi’s indecision and a touch (which appears to be a hand) from Lapadula to beat Sommer again. Not only that, because Viola himself also has the ball twice for the lead, first kicking from distance and then on a header that ends up in the hands of Sommer. In the final, Inter lacked the strength for the last assault and in the end only Cagliari celebrated, gaining a significant point in the battle for survival.
