As of: April 13, 2024 9:58 p.m

This storm duo is ready for the Champions League: Serhou Guirassy and Deniz Undav have laid the foundation for VfB Stuttgart’s next win against Eintracht Frankfurt. In the evening game on Saturday (April 13, 2024), the two attackers secured the early preliminary decision with their goals in the clear 3-0 (3-0) win.

From relegation to a hot Champions League contender – VfB Stuttgart’s rise is extraordinary and very closely linked to its two strikers. Guirassy and Undav form one of the world’s most dangerous duos in the major leagues. Before the game against Eintracht Frankfurt, they were ranked third among the most successful attacking pairs worldwide – and then moved closer to the top two.

Guirassy once again the door opener

Guirassy made it 1-0 in the eleventh minute after Angelo Stiller’s dream pass. It was the 28-year-old’s 25th goal of the season, his sixth game in a row, and his first goal of the game for the fifth time in this period. His congenial partner in the storm took care of the second.

Undav beat Robin Koch and then tunneled past William Pacho with his low shot, the ball landed unstoppable in the far corner (17th). The 17th goal of the season for the German international – who with Guirassy is now only just behind Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala. The Bayern duo scored 42 goals in the Bundesliga, the two Stuttgart players now have 41 together. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Talisca, who scored 45 times for Al-Nassr FC, are more successful worldwide.

But the most important thing for Stuttgart: The two goals were the foundation for the next success, and not yet the end of an outstanding first half. Jamie Leweling made it 3-0 after great preparatory work from Undav and thus secured the early decision (37th).

“The first half was really good. We showed a certain efficiency and scored the goals at the right times,” Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß told Sportschau after the game.

Stuttgart is really slowing down

With this comfortable lead behind them, the Stuttgart team took things much easier in the second half. The hosts initially largely left the ball and the game to Frankfurt and didn’t show much enthusiasm on their counterattacks. Nevertheless, Eintracht’s efforts were not so high-class that the clear victory could even be in danger.

But Undav and Guirassy didn’t want to be completely satisfied with their day’s work yet. However, in the 68th minute, Undav narrowly missed Stuttgart’s fourth goal after an assist from his strike partner. It was the last action of the third most successful duo in the world. And the last dangerous action by Stuttgart and Frankfurt didn’t go beyond half chances either.

Thanks to the victory, Stuttgart remains third and is seven points ahead of fifth place, meaning qualification for the Champions League is getting closer and closer. Frankfurt, meanwhile, has lost part of its lead over FC Augsburg and, in sixth place, is now only three points ahead of the non-European places.
