For the second consecutive season Sergio “Oveja” Hernández returns before the end of Puerto Rico.

After losing the first two games at the head of Leones de Ponce (99 to 64 against Piratas de Quebradillas and 91 to 70 against Aguada Santeros) the leadership decided to replace Oveja with Carlos Rivera, a former player and assistant of the institution.

The coaching staff will also be made up of Carlos Morales, Gabriel Piccato, Angel Daniel Vassallo and Javier Antonio “Toñito” Colón.

The previous season, Oveja resigned from the team after 18 games (7-11). However, the leadership proposed that he continue to be involved as an advisor to the franchise, something that did not happen this time.

Consequently, on a special day for Leones due to the inauguration of the Juan Pachín Vicéns stadium, today the team will debut at home and under the direction of the brand new coach Carlos Rivera, in the match against Criollo de Caguas, while Oveja will begin its return.

The stadium was remodeled after 21 years – it was affected by Hurricane María – and there Leones won the championships in 2004, 2014 and 2015.
