The General Manager of the Texans, Nick Caserio, commented on the trade involving running back Joe Mixon, expressing his satisfaction with Mixon joining the team and hoping he stays for years to come.
The Texans’ offseason has been record-breaking with their acquisitions. According to NFL Research, they are the first team ever to sign a pass rusher like Danielle Hunter and trade for wide receiver Stefon Diggs and Mixon, all of whom achieved 10+ sacks, 100+ receptions, and 1,000+ rushing yards in the previous season.
According to a statement from team transcript, Caserio explained that Joe was scheduled to be released, but they evaluated him as a player who could contribute to the team. When discussing the acquisition of Mixon, Caserio described the process of negotiating with the other team to see if they would be willing to give up a pick for Joe. He also noted that Joe has been a consistent and productive player, and they are happy to have him on the team for the foreseeable future. This is the process that led to the trade being finalized.

Mixon, who just finished his fourth season with over 1,000 rushing yards, joins the Texans team which surprised many by winning the AFC South with C.J. Stroud as their quarterback. Stroud’s performance led Houston to a record of 10-7 and their first playoff appearance since 2019.
