Sarthe Judo Teacher Prepares for European Veterans Championships

Judo teacher in Sarthe, Florian Perdereau is preparing to participate in the European Veterans Championships in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina).

“It’s a childhood dream to participate in an international championship. It’s the culmination of a career. »

Florian Perdereau has been practicing judo since the age of six.

I was a turbulent child, I played football, but I didn’t like it. I asked to fight. In the end it was judo, recalls the Sarthois, all smiles. I fell in love with this sport and never stopped.

Seduced by the competition, he participated several times in the French championships. Anyone who has completed four years of sports studies has passed the necessary exams to become a teacher. He has been giving lessons since 2015. “I teach in Sablé, La Flèche and Le Mans”. At the same time, he is on contract with the City of Sablé, as an after-school and holiday activity leader.

In veterans since this year

Florian Perdereau has not abandoned the competition, however. In judo, it is possible to progress in the veteran category from the age of 30.

If the one who is licensed to the Le Mans club did not take part in the veteran competitions during his first year, he took the plunge a few months ago. “At La Flèche, I spoke with Françoise Dufresne who told me about the good atmosphere that reigned in the veteran categories. »

Convinced by the 71-year-old judokate who has 12 world titles, he competed in his first competitions in the 30-35 age category.

In -90 kg, he obtained convincing results, notably a victory at the Saint-Marcel tournament in Burgundy-Franche-Comté and a second place at the Lille international tournament.

1st Frenchman in his category

At the time of writing, the 31-year-old is simply first in the national rankings. “As I rank well in the tournaments in which I participate, I plan to participate in the European Championships and then the World Championships afterward,” explains Florian Perdereau.

First stage, the European Veterans Championships, in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina), from June 6 to 9.

A trip that you have to finance yourself since the Federation does not financially support veteran athletes.

“Between the purchase of the kimono, the travel and the registration fees for the competition, it’s a budget of around 2,000 euros,” points out the athlete. Florian Perdereau collected donations from people around him to help him finance this adventure.

Un podium ?

The Sabolien will try to shine in his age category which is one of the most competitive. “I would love to come back with a medal. »

This European Championship could only be the beginning of a great international story.

Florian Perdereau could participate in the World Championships in Las Vegas (United States) at the beginning of November.
