Santa Fe Falls Short in Victory Against Atlético Nacional: A Recap of the Match

Independiente Santa Fe did not want to delay mathematically ensuring classification to the top eight of the BetPlay League and that is why it wanted to beat Atlético Nacional in the great party that the fans of the red team threw at the El Campín stadium. Also, with a special guest, Gerardo Pelusso, the coach who gave him the Copa Sudamericana.

The home team, already with Juan Pablo Zuluaga on the field after an injury and with its usual 5-3-2, was better than its rival in the first half, however, it did not translate its possession of the ball and creation of options in a scoreboard imbalance. This time, coach Pablo Peirano decided on Jersson González to accompany Rodallega, but neither could score.

At minute 10, Santa Fe received a foul in the area from Juan José Arias on Jersson González, before which referee Jhon Hinestroza decided to whistle a shot from the penalty spot. A shot that was never taken because after reviewing the VAR, the judge retracted it.

At minute 19, Santa Fe was able to score the first goal after a Chilean by Hugo Rodallega in the area. The forward made the move correctly, but the ball deflected over Harlen Castillo’s crossbar. González, Zuluaga and Torres also approached with danger, but without forcefulness.

Second half: Draw in El Campín

In the second half, Santa Fe had to contain Edier Ocampo who in the first minutes was unbalanced for Atlético Nacional and brought some risk to Andrés Mosquera’s goal. However, as time went by, it was the locals who once again took control of the match.

Santa Fe had the ball, it had the options and it had the clarity to be superior to its rival. But he was missing the goal. There were no tools to be able to define, despite playing a good game. Something that changed in the 53rd minute of the game when Daniel Torres scored.

The play began with a header from Hugo Rodallega that goalkeeper Castillo left on a rebound that the midfielder took advantage of to beat the defense and the Nacional goalkeeper. In the middle of the play, Zuluaga was in the middle of the visiting team’s defenders and goalkeeper and for this reason, the referee reviewed the VAR.

Although Zuluaga did not intervene in the play in any way, nor did he obstruct the goalkeeper. Hinestroza decided to cancel the play and the game was once again tied at zero goals. Santa Fe kept trying. It came especially from Perlaza’s side, who had a great match.
