In a historic event for the province, San Juan was the scene of the first interprovincial judo tournament, which had the participation of 150 competitors of different ages and from San Luis, La Rioja and Mendoza.
Organized by the Judo School of the Kennedy Neighborhood Union, with the support of the Municipality of the City of Santa Lucía and the supervision of the San Juan Judo Federation, the tournament was headed by the president of the federation, Luis Meritello.
Under the direction of teachers Ricardo Meritello and Marcelo Zalazar, competitors, from 4 years old onwards, participated in their respective age and weight categories. Categories were included such as Microbes less than 6 years, pre-promotional less than 8 years, promotional less than 10 years, children A less than 12 years, children B less 14, cadets under 18, juniors under 21, senior (black belts), adult kyu and a category especially for the blind.
The tournament was attended by representatives from four provinces, highlighting the participation of local schools such as the judo school of the Unión Vecinal Barrio Kennedy, judo of the Professional Council of Economic Sciences of San Juan and the Yamasita School. In addition, Mendoza was represented by various teams, such as Andes Talleres, the National University of Cuyo and several municipalities, while San Luis was represented by the Bushido and Kusushi Institutes. Finally, La Rioja participated with the Chilecito La Rioja Judo School.
The meeting was attended by authorities from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, including the Undersecretary of Federated Sports, Santiago de la Torre, and Miguel Blanquier, Undersecretary of Human Development, as well as representatives of the host Municipality.
The competition provided San Juan competitors with valuable experience and preparation for future competitions, such as the National Judo Opening that will be held in Carlos Paz from May 2 to 5.
