“Roubaix, baby”: Ineos Grenadiers surprises and pulls Tom Pidcock out of the hat for Paris-Roubaix

Tom Pidcock is the surprise of the chef at Ineos Grenadiers for Paris-Roubaix. The cobblestone classic was not on the program of the Brit, who would focus on the climbing classics. However, on Monday he already disappeared from the Tour of the Basque Country after a fall and that slide now actually brings him to the start of Hell.

After Milan-San Remo, Tom Pidcock had taken a break in the spring towards the one-day races in Dutch Limburg and the Ardennes.

The Briton qualified for the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix would also not be a problem this year.

Pidcock wanted to fine-tune himself this week in the Tour of the Basque Country, but he crashed during the exploration of the time trial on day 1.

Fortunately, Pidcock did not suffer any fractures, but he did suffer from a hip injury and disrupted preparation.

He turns necessity into a virtue and changes the gun. Pidcock will participate in Paris-Roubaix for the first time tomorrow.

The Brit won the promising version in 2019. He leads the team with youngsters Joshua Tarling and Andrew AJ August, at 18 the youngest participant since 1937.

“After my crash there was some chaos, but I recovered quickly and after additional scans I knew there were no injuries,” he explains.

“I haven’t missed too much training and now I’m here for my favorite race, even though I haven’t ridden Roubaix as a professional yet.”
