Rondje De Heul: Uniting a Village through Connection and Community

“A stamp tour along unique places in Kwintsheul where people can meet each other and make new contacts, that is Rondje De Heul! Connection is central,” says social broker Bram Damen, who initiated this special tour afternoon.

Social cohesion

A strong social basis promotes social cohesion in villages and neighborhoods. Club life and caring for each other play a vital role in this. For neighbors who meet each other more often, the threshold for asking or offering help is becoming increasingly lower. Yet many people have less contact with others than they would like. But implementing change: how do you do that? The organization of ‘Rondje De Heul’ responds to this.

“On June 2, the small village of Kwintsheul shows how it can be great,” said Marije Helleman, youth chairman of Quintus Badminton. “De Heul has a rich club life, with a wide range of activities and sports for all ages. Quintus alone consists of seven independent departments: badminton, gym, handball, jeu de boules, tennis, football and volleyball. During ‘Rondje De Heul’ we put the many opportunities to meet others and to be active yourself in the spotlight for an afternoon. We encourage residents to come together and do something together that gives you energy.”

“Scouting Kwintheul organizes an open day every year,” continues Roel Batist. “In 2024 we will coincide with ‘Rondje De Heul’. In this way we hope to reach a somewhat broader audience. We show why scouting is so much fun. Around the club building on De Raaphorst, visitors can learn to tie ropes or bake a sandwich over a campfire.”

Draw attention to a beautiful and special part of Westland. Historical Grape Nursery Sonnehoeck is participating with exactly that approach. “We represent almost the entire history of Westland grape growing,” says Ada Tangel. “The nursery consists of eight grape greenhouses, a water tower, two boiler houses with chimneys and a fruit wall. The old gardener’s house from 1729 is unique. This will also be opened on June 2. During ‘Rondje De Heul’ our volunteers provide continuous informative tours. People can also play old Dutch games and there is a bouncy castle especially for the little ones.”

Cultural activities

There is also extra entertainment in Dorpshuis Kastanjehof. “A seven-piece blues formation will perform in the large hall, in the small hall it is possible for children to make a birdhouse or hobby horse and outside people can be surprised by the summer sounds of the St. Gregorius music association,” Kees Jongerius sums up.

The cultural and artistic activities during Rondje De Heul are made possible thanks to contributions in the context of the Small Cultural Initiatives (KCI) scheme of the municipality of Westland, which is implemented by Westland Cultuurweb.

During ‘Rondje De Heul’ there are no markings along the road. “This way you can give your own interpretation to the route you want to walk, cycle or sail. Because exploring Kwintsheul by Westland barge is also an option,” says the organizing committee.

You can pick up a free start/stamp card on May 22 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Quintus sports complex. On May 23 and 30 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Neighborhood Information Point in Dorpshuis Kastanjehof. Or on June 2 from 12.30 pm on the square next to the supermarket. A full stamp card is rewarded with something tasty!
