Richard Carapaz returns to the Amstel Gold Race after his crash during Tirreno-Adriatico

Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz will make his return to racing on Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race, a little over a month after his fall during Tirreno-Adriatico, according to his team EF Education-Easy Post. The American team will therefore be able to rely on two strong men since the Irishman Ben Healy, 2nd in the Dutch classic last year behind Tadej Pogacar, will also be at the start.

Carapaz, reigning Olympic champion and winner of the 2019 Giro, had not competed since his retirement during the last stage of Tirreno-Adriatico on March 10. He had to give up the GP Miguel Indurain and the Tour of the Basque Country, which initially appeared in his program.

After the Amstel, Carapaz plans to compete in the Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday April 21 and the Tour de Romandie from April 23 to 28. “It’s a very good calendar, then we will decide with the team the best way to get to the Tour de France, which is the main objective,” he commented.
