William Saliba has come into the spotlight at Real Madrid, reports journalist Graeme Bailey, known from X, on behalf of HITC Football. The Royal watched the 23-year-old Frenchman from Arsenal in several Premier League matches and sees him as the ideal defender for the world team that the Madrid club is building. Saliba is still at the Emirates Stadium until mid-2027.

The ink on Saliba’s signature has only just dried in London. At the end of June, the Gunners proudly announced an extended stay. Real Madrid may therefore put a stop to that, although the Spanish record champion will have to dig deep into their pockets. The German Transfermarkt estimates Saliba’s current market value at at least 80 million euros.

That is already 50 million euros more than Arsenal transferred to Saint-Étienne in 2019 to free the tall stopper in France. After impressive loans to OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille, Saliba played in manager Mikel Arteta’s starting XI last season.

In a short time, Saliba became a France international, on behalf of whom he has already played thirteen international matches. He could potentially become the next Bleus star to join Real Madrid next summer. While Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were in the market for Saliba last summer, he is now high on the list of the LaLiga leaders.

The club management of Real Madrid is satisfied with Antonio Rüdiger (31) and Éder Militão (26), but still wants to invest in the center of defense. This all has to do with the expiring contract of Nacho Fernández (34) and the injury sensitivity of David Alaba (31). Los Blancos want to sign a top defender for the next decade.

The names of Leny Yoro (LOSC Lille) and António Silva (Benfica) are discussed, but Saliba is the absolute dream candidate according to Bailey. His good relationship with Kylian Mbappé, who will most likely come to Madrid next summer, could contribute to this. Real Madrid chief scout Juli Calafat is said to have been ‘deeply impressed’ by Saliba during several trips to Arsenal’s Premier League matches.

Whether Saliba’s arrival next summer is feasible is as yet unknown. Real Madrid has already made a considerable expenditure with Endrick (bought for 45 million euros from Palmeiras), while Alphonso Davies has to come from Bayern Munich. However, the largest cost item will go to Mbappé, who is out of contract in Paris. Precisely because of that detail, the French superstar can prepare for one of the most absurd contracts ever in Madrid.
