Since January of this year, Nadal has had to cancel every other planned ATP tournament participation due to injury. The Spaniard has been battling his pain for months now, but still trains and prepares for almost every tournament. With the hope that it could work out. And that hope has now flared up again. Even if only on the back burner.
The “King of Clay” completed his first training session in Barcelona today. After the training season, 37-year-old Nadal spoke up on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram and wrote “First training… looking forward to being here these days before the tournament.” The Spaniard continued: “I’m here to see how it works…to play with the desire. I’ll tell you more later.” So far so good, but at the end of his message it becomes clear: Participation in the tournament is by no means confirmed. “It’s important to say that I don’t want to confirm that I will play, although I hope so. We’ll see,” Nadal concluded his message to the tennis world. So we have to wait and hope that the King of Clay can serve again without pain.
