The Qatar National Team played a dramatic match against the Jordan National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Qatar won 2-1 with a goal in injury time!
Qatar hosted Jordan in the second match of Group A of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup which was held at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Thursday (18/4/2024) evening WIB. Qatar was surprisingly under pressure from Jordan from the early minutes.
Jordan made a total of 10 attempts with four of them on goal. Meanwhile, Qatar only made six attempts, four on goal.
Even though they didn’t dominate the game, Qatar was still able to defend well against Jordan’s waves of attacks. Qatar actually took the lead in the 40th minute through Abdulla Al Yazidi.
Al Yazidi received a mature pass from Khaled Ali before shooting the ball from a tight angle and nestled in the top left corner of the Jordanian goal.
After trailing 0-1 in the first half, Jordan increased the intensity of their attacks in the second half. Five minutes after the break, Jordan received a penalty because Amer Jamous was fouled by Hashmi Al Hussain.
Aref Al Haj coolly placed the ball in the bottom left corner of Qatr’s goal and made the score equal at 1-1.
This goal made Jordan even more enthusiastic about pressing Qatar and they never stopped creating opportunity after opportunity. However, poor finishing meant that the goal never came.
Disaster struck for Jordan in injury time which almost reached 20 minutes! In the 13th minute, Qatar got a free kick which was executed well by Jassem Al Sharshani and the ball was headed by Mohammad Al Mannai to put the hosts ahead again 2-1.
This score lasted until the match ended and Qatar secured a place in the U-23 Asian Cup quarter-finals. Because they top Group A with six points, five points different from Jordan in third place with one game remaining.
The competition for the remaining tickets will be contested by Indonesia, Australia and Jordan in the final match.
