PUCPR Pioneers Repeat Championship, UAGM Taínas Dominate Judo at LAI Sports Festival

Mayagüez. The Pioneers of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (PUCPR) repeated the championship, while the Taínas of the Ana G. The tatami was located in the Rafael Mangual Coliseum of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) in Mayagüez.

“We feel extremely happy and satisfied with the results of this second semester. First, the long-awaited ‘back to back’ was achieved in men’s judo, where we won five gold medals and two silver medals in the men’s branch and one bronze in the women’s branch. “I feel super happy with the work done by the women’s judo team. In conversation with coach Luis Martínez he always told me that he won the championship in the women’s division and in the men’s division we had some declines in academic achievement, but we continue working for next year. We understand that next year we will have a better and more complete team. So get ready, for the next three years the UAGM has a mission to dominate both branches, you have to work hard to win the gold,” said athletic director, Edgar Díaz, of the UAGM.

The Taínas of the UAGM came to the top with 66.5 points. The Juanas of the UPR of Mayagüez and the Tigresses of the UIPR had a great fight for second and third position. The collegiate team won the runner-up position with 58.5 points and the green and yellow team took third place with 55 points. In the female branch, competition was held in the categories -45 kilos, -48 kilos, -52 kilos, -57 kilos, -63 kilos, -70 kilos, -78 kilos, +78 kilos.
