PSV Duisburg International Youth Judo Tournament Draws Top Talent from Germany and Abroad

Duisburg. The PSV Duisburg international youth tournament is a fixture in the competition schedule. Belgium once again has many participants.

The judo department of the Duisburg Police Sports Club is organizing the International Judo Tournament for Male Youth U16 in Duisburg next Saturday, April 20th, for the 24th time. The tournament is an official screening tournament of the German Judo Federation (DJB) and is also the most competitive performance comparison of the year for this age range. There are still no national title fights for the judokas born in 2010 and 2011. In the Walter Schädlich Hall in Hamborn, six competition areas offer optimal conditions for athletes and visitors.

A year after the participant record of 331 fighters last year, a similar number of participants can be expected on Saturday with around 350 entries from almost all of the DJB’s regional associations as well as from Bulgaria, Belgium and the Netherlands. The athletes come from around 150 clubs; Many of the 18 state associations compete with a state selection. In addition to North Rhine-Westphalia, the teams with the largest number of participants come from Baden-Württemberg, Berlin and Hamburg. With 36 fighters, Belgium has the largest field of participants from abroad. Three young fighters will take to the mat for the host PSV, including Frants Bochkovskyi, who achieved a strong fifth place at the West German Championships.

Numerous German and foreign athletes who now perform successfully on the international adult stage have completed their first international encounters in Duisburg. The national fighters Moritz Plafky from Hennef, Eduard Trippel from Rüsselsheim and Falk Petersilka from Bonn left the mat as winners in Duisburg. Judo world champion Alexander Wieczerzak from Wiesbaden won the tournament in 2005. The Dutch World Cup bronze medalist Frank de Wit also won a gold medal in 2010, when he was still in Großenbaum.
