PSG Targeting Barça Starlet Lamine Yamal: Could This Transfer Hit?

That would be a transfer hit!

PSG is apparently planning a frontal attack on Barça. As the French newspaper “Le Parisien” reports, Paris has chosen Barça jewel Lamine Yamal (16) as their main transfer target for the coming summer transfer phase.

FC Barcelona probably has to worry about its strongest young player. Yamal is set to become the new face of FC Barcelona. He is considered Barça’s greatest talent since Lionel Messi (36). This season, the winger has already made 44 appearances for the Catalans (six goals, eight assists) – at just 16 years old.

According to Le Parisien, PSG have Yamal in their sights. The Barça star could replace Kylian Mbappé (25), who is likely to move to Real Madrid in the summer. However, there would probably only be a chance of a transfer if Yamal himself expressed a clear desire to move.

Apparently Barça has already rejected a mega offer of 200 million euros from PSG for Yamal. Barça President Joan Laporta (61) recently said: “We rejected that because we have confidence in the boy and his sporting development. We don’t have the need, we are in the process of economic recovery and are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Paris knows how expensive a transfer of Yamal would be, if it were even possible. But thanks to last summer’s departures (Neymar, Lionel Messi, Marco Verratti and Sergio Ramos) and the impending Mbappé move, PSG have significantly improved their balance sheets and therefore have the options for a frontal transfer attack on Barça.

Alex Pintanel (39), Barça reporter since 2017 (currently for “Relevo”), about Yamal: “Nobody wants to compare him directly with Lionel Messi yet. But when you talk to people from the La Masia youth academy, they at least say: They haven’t seen someone like Lamine Yamal since Messi,” says “There are a lot of things that remind me of Messi. For example, the physical illusions or the impression that the ball is stuck to his foot.” To put it into perspective: Messi only made his debut in Barça’s first team when he was early 17.

Yamal, the son of a Moroccan father and a mother from Equatorial Guinea, grew up in a working-class district of Barcelona and entered the famous La Masia academy at the age of five. Off the pitch he is considered reserved and modest. But he also regularly gives TV interviews after games.

In September, Barça extended his youth contract until 2026. It included an option for the contract to be extended by three years in 2025, when he turns 18. And an exit clause of one billion euros! It was negotiated by star advisor Jorge Mendes (58), who has a close relationship with club president Laporta.

However: Mendes is also the advisor to many PSG stars and is said to have a very good relationship with Paris boss Luis Campos. So it’s possible that he also sends Yamal to Paris…
