PSG: calendar management, a nice headache

With potentially ten matches to play in the space of 42 days, PSG will experience a rich and exciting end to the season. With in the back of his mind, the achievement of a historic Ligue 1 – Champions League – Coupe de France treble. If this increase in meetings promises to be more exciting than ever for the Parisian players and staff, it is also causing some headaches in relation to the capital club’s championship schedule since it validated its ticket this week for the final four of the Champions League.

Opposed to Borussia Dortmund, PSG will travel to Germany to play the first leg on Wednesday May 1, before hosting BVB on Tuesday May 7 at the Parc des Princes. A choice which is important for the future programming of its Ligue 1 matches and more particularly for the one which awaits it on Saturday May 4 with a trip to Nice located between its two European meetings played six days apart .

The Board of Directors of the Professional Football League – made up in particular of several elite club presidents – must meet this Friday, April 19 to decide whether or not to postpone the date of this match against the Aiglons. In recent hours, the trend has been towards a postponement of this meeting, even if the LFP made it known that it was waiting to know the results of Olympique de Marseille and Lille, also involved in the European Cup, to discuss in a manner overall the question of adjustments to the end of season calendar.

PSG awaits LFP decision

For its part, the capital club simply explained this Thursday that it was awaiting the decision of the body, even if the subject did not seem to torment it more than that. At the same time, we ruled out the possibility of seeing the reception at Le Havre scheduled for Saturday April 27 being postponed, since Luis Enrique’s men will have four days to prepare for their semi-final first leg against Dortmund. The situation would have been different if the latter had been played out on April 30…

The choice to postpone the Nice-PSG match would in any case go in the direction of that which was taken a few weeks ago in order to promote the preparation of the French clubs present in the quarter-finals of the various European Cups. PSG saw its championship match against Lorient initially placed between the two matches against Barça postponed to April 24 to benefit from a longer rest period, in the same way as OM and Losc. If this change were to be ratified, the opposition against Nice could be scheduled between the last two days of the championship, around May 15, one of the only slots still available between now and the end of the season.

At the same time, Borussia Dortmund, 5th in the Bundesliga, will be faced with another calendar problem which concerns the nature of its opponents. Jadon Sancho’s partners have a tough program with the reception this weekend of Bayer Leverkusen, just German champions, and a trip on Saturday May 27 to Leipzig, 4th, with whom they are fighting for qualification in the Champions League . A nice headache for coach Edin Terzic.
