Maarten Paes It is certain that he has undergone naturalization and now has an Indonesian passport. The following is the profile of Maarten Paes who is a new force between the sticks Indonesian National team after officially becoming an Indonesian citizen (WNI).

Paes has been in the public spotlight for Indonesian football since the end of last year following the incessant wave of naturalization.

Unlike other players such as Jordi Amat, Shayne Pattynama, or Rafael Struick, who are field players, Paes is a goalkeeper.

Paes was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on May 14 1998. Now Paes is pursuing a career at the FC Dallas club which competes in the United States soccer league or Major League Soccer (MLS).

Paes has been working as a goalkeeper since joining the VV Union academy which then joined NEC Nijmegen in 2012.

With Nijmegen, Paes entered the U-17 and U-19 teams. In 2018, Paes entered the senior team at the age of 18.

FC Utrecht then recruited Paes by giving him a four-year contract in 2018. He made his debut at the top level of the Dutch league on 19 August 2018 against PEC Zwolle.

While in the Utrecht first team, Paes made 48 appearances in all competitions with 4,264 minutes played. From that number of matches, Paes conceded 63 times and scored 12 times clean sheet.

Maarten Paes’ convincing performance made FC Dallas borrow the services of the 192 cm goalkeeper in January 2022. His impressive performance made FC Dallas make Paes permanent in the summer of 2022.

This season Paes has appeared nine times for Dallas and conceded 12 times and recorded clean sheet in three matches.

At international level, Paes played for the Dutch U-19 national team at the 2016 and 2017 U-19 Euros. Then Maarten Paes played for the U-20 and U-21 age groups for his home country.

Paes has red and white blood from his grandmother who was born in the city of Pare, Kediri, East Java.

“Maarten Vincent Paes has a lineage from a grandmother who was born in Pare, Kediri, East Java on March 20 1940,” said the Director General of General Legal Administration of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Cahyo Rahadian Muzhar, in a working meeting with Commission III DPR RI, Thursday (7/3 ).

Paes officially became an Indonesian citizen after taking the oath in Jakarta, Tuesday (30/4) morning.

Paes is a naturalized player recommended by Shin Tae Yong to strengthen the Indonesian national team. The 25-year-old goalkeeper was previously planned to undergo the naturalization process with Thom Haye and Ragnar Oratmangoen in early March 2024.
