Profeco asks Tesla to correct letter size in alerts – El Sol de México

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) called for Tesla to review four thousand vehicles due to a “possible risk” in the visual warning indicators of the braking and parking systems.

In a statement, the consumer protection office specified that the problem lies in the fact that the font size of these alerts can change, which represents a potential risk to the safety of drivers.

The models involved are 389 Tesla M3 vehicles from the year 2023; 523 units of the Tesla MX year 2022-2023; and 3 thousand 22 Tesla MY year 2020-2023, Profeco added.

The authority explained that this failure derives from the installation of version 2023.44.30.9 in the vehicles, which modifies the font size of the indicators to a smaller size of 3.2 millimeters. As a result, driver detection when illuminated could be reduced and “increase the risk of collision.”

Profeco indicated that to fix this flaw, Tesla will publish a new version to increase the font size. In addition, it will fix some minor flaws in the 2023 Tesla MX and 2021-2023 Tesla MS models.

Tesla will notify owners of the vehicles involved by email. The company notified that as of February 12, 2024, no damage or incidents have been reported to the vehicles involved in Mexican territory, the authority indicated.

This call comes after the United States authorities asked Tesla to modify version 2,193,869 in its vehicles on February 2, after determining that the size of the warning letters on the dashboard screen was small.

Standards in the United States establish that the size of the letters for this type of warning must be at least 3.2 millimeters in size, but Tesla vehicles do not meet this requirement, so the company was forced to modify them.
