Prison sentence for former biathlon president – sport.ORF.at

The former president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Anders Besseberg, has been sentenced to three years and one month in prison for serious corruption. The Norwegian public prosecutor’s office announced this on Friday.

The Norwegian Authority for the Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crimes charged Besseberg last year with offenses committed between 2009 and 2018.

The 78-year-old Besseberg, who was IBU chief from 1992 to 2018, was accused, among other things, of accepting bribes in the form of watches, hunting trips and trophies, prostitutes and a leased car that he used in Norway from 2011 to 2018 have.

Besseberg denied any form of wrongdoing: “I am of course disappointed and surprised by the verdict. “I will appeal the verdict on the spot,” he announced on public broadcaster NRK.
