(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 25 – Liverpool loses 2-0 to Everton, its first defeat in the derby since 2010, and complicates the race for the Premier League title. With four matches remaining in the championship, Juergen Klopp’s team is three points behind leaders Arsenal and has a one-point advantage over Manchester City, who however have two games to recover. In the other matches played in the evening, Manchester United struggled to overcome Sheffield, bottom of the table, 4-2, but thanks to Newcastle’s defeat against Crystal Palace (2-0), they rose to sixth place, overtaking their own team of Howe.
The Reds, at Goodison Park, surrendered to goals from Branthwaite in the first half and Calvert-Lewin in the second half, without ever giving the impression of being able to avoid defeat. In the last four league games, Liverpool have only scored four points, including those from the victory against Fulham that preceded the match against the Toffees, and in between they also got eliminated by Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals. The second consecutive victory instead allows Sean Dyche’s men to move away from the relegation zone and cancel the effects of the eight-point penalty suffered for failure to comply with the financial rules of the English championship.
