Possible renewed commitment: Will Mislintat return to BVB this week?

As of: April 1, 2024 2:13 p.m

Sven Mislintat’s return to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund is apparently imminent. In what capacity, however, is still open.

According to consistent media reports, the 51-year-old’s renewed commitment to BVB will be announced this week. Whether Mislintat is scheduled to be the fourth-placed team’s sports director remains unclear for the time being. The association did not comment on SID’s request on Easter Monday.

Mislintat was chief scout for the Black and Yellows from 2006 to 2017. During this time he discovered, among others, Robert Lewandowski. Mislintat then also worked in this role at Arsenal FC and as sports director at VfB Stuttgart. From May to September 2023 he worked as sports director at Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam – but after some disagreements, the separation quickly took place.

Reorganization of the club’s leadership

Since Hans-Joachim Watzke announced his imminent retirement as managing director at the beginning of the year, there has been speculation in Dortmund about the restructuring of the club’s top management. The plan is for the 64-year-old to hand over overall sporting responsibility by June 30, 2024 and to end his role as managing director in autumn 2025.

Sebastian Kehl is considered the new sports director. His previous position as sports director could go to Mislintat. There should be clarity soon.
