Ella Seidel, Nastasja Schunk
In their doubles game, the two youngsters beat the number 1 seeded duo Desirae Krawczyk/Demi Schuurs 6:4, 4:6 and [10:8] and caused an absolute sensation. Because Krawczyk and Schuurs were also the defending champions – they won in Stuttgart in 2022 and 2023.
Schunk and Seidel only made it into the main draw with a wildcard – and celebrated their biggest victory. For comparison: Schuurs is number 10 in doubles, Krawczyk is number 14; Schunk is only in 923rd place, Seidel is at least in 307th place.
Schunk and Seidel were eliminated from qualifying in the individual competition.
And another German is in the quarterfinals in doubles: Laura Siegemund. The world number six in the doubles competition won with Barbora Krajicek against Fang-Hsien Wu/Yifan Xu 3:6, 6:4 and [10:7].
Paolini, Zheng and Vondrousova win
The favorites won the singles in the afternoon. Jasmin Paolini won against doubles partner Sara Errani 6:1, 6:0, Qinwen Zheng won against Sorana Cirstea 6:2, 6:3 and Marketa Vondrousova beat Donna Vekic 6:4, 6:3
In the evening Tatjana Maria will play her opening match against Elise Mertens.
