Eyüpspor would like to take over Luka Modric from Real Madrid, Madrid-based AS announced on Wednesday evening. The Turkish club managed to gain promotion to the Süper Lig last weekend and now wants to build a strong team. The Spanish sports newspaper does not reveal whether discussions have already taken place with Modric’s agent and whether a concrete offer has already been submitted.

Trainer Arda Turan, former midfielder of Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona, among others, achieved the first success in his young coaching career with the promotion of his team. Now he wants to send a signal for next season by bringing in Modric.

The 38-year-old Croatian is out of contract on June 30 and has not yet made a decision about his future. It is expected that Modric is in his last months as a Real Madrid player.

It is the first time that Eyüpspor is playing at the highest level in Turkey. Last season, Turan’s formation was close to promotion, but then the team lost in the play-offs.

Thanks to a 4-1 victory over Altay, Eyüpspor secured a place among the top two in the Superliga. Number three Sakaryaspor has an unbridgeable deficit of seventeen points with five games to go.

The championship is also within reach for the Turan team, as the lead over number two Göztepe is eight points. Ahmed Kutucu, the attacker who played fifteen Eredivisie matches for Heracles Almelo, is part of the selection.

Turan makes no secret of the fact that he wants big stars in his team next season. The owner, Murat Özkaya, is also convinced of the plans. “I don’t care how old he is,” referring to Modric.
