Peñarol Dominates Caracas with 5-0 Victory in Copa Libertadores Clash

Peñarol, with a great display of authority and a luxury Maximiliano Silvera, beat Caracas of Venezuela 5-0 in their second appearance in the Copa Libertadores de América, the first at home, where they fulfilled the two previous premises: winning and scoring.

The duel began with the Aurinegros trying to pull the strings and be offensive, working on the wings and wanting to open gaps in a rival who was defending themselves to seek to respond with a counterattack.

The truth is that as the minutes passed, the visitors became looser, holding the ball from the shuttlecocks and betting on getting closer with aerial balls over the rival fence.

In the first in-depth raid by the Aurinegros came the opening. A ball headed by Eduardo Darias found Maximiliano Silvera’s goal, breaking lines and then hitting a left-footed shot that left Fariñez without a problem and making it 1-0.

A goal that gave peace of mind and that could be doubled moments later when a center from Fernández again found the number nine who could not give power and direction to the front.

And later it was Fernández himself who warned again with a free kick that the goalkeeper took flying over his right. But the second did not take long to arrive.

A climb by Maximiliano Olivera ended in a measured cross so that Silvera, on an inspired night, played with quality to make it 2-0 at 25′.

The machinery was oiled and loose to play and continue expanding, which came a few minutes later. A foul on Darias ended in a cross from Fernández headed by Javier Méndez who connected to inflate the nets and make it 3-0.

And the fourth was about to be scored again by the nine carbonero after a great wall but whose shot found the glove of the clubkeeper to take out.

The fans sang loudly, driven by a great performance from their team, who made a difference and far from giving up, wanted to go for much more.

And in the last part of the first half the fourth appeared, now with a run by Javier Cabrera on the right, a low cross for the entry of Eduardo Darias, with great work, who gained speed to kick and achieve the 4-0 with which he They went to rest.

For the complement, Aguirre sent Cepillo González to the field for Eduardo Darias and five minutes later Lucas Hernández and Leo Coelho for Maxi Olivera and Javier Méndez, at that point looking to take care of pieces for the string of games that were coming.

The visit also made some substitutions but there with the intention of reducing the bleeding in an absolutely defined duel and which had as a question whether the mirasol would continue to expand distances.

And at 58′ another change came, with Gastón Ramírez leaving, much applauded, for the Brazilian Matheus Babi to enter the attack.

At that point the intensity of the back-and-forth had decreased, but the ball and the intentions were all the home team’s who were able to score the fifth after a cross from Babi where Lucas Hernández then burst the crossbar.

But the one who did not fail on the night was Maximiliano Silvera who took advantage of a rebound from Fariñez after a shot from Leo Fernández to score his third personal goal in the 64th minute and make it 5-0.

The last great play of the scorer who was replaced at 70′ by Ignacio Sosa, leaving with a standing ovation from the fans who rewarded his unforgettable night.

If the ordeal for the visit was endless, the well-declared expulsion of Luis Casiani in the 73rd minute left a terrifying end to the game ahead that Aguirre’s men would seek to take advantage of.

The truth is that beyond some run by Franco González, or the northerner pivoting in the area, the chances were no longer so clear. A shot from Cepillo that the goalkeeper took and some header after a corner gave the final touches to a resounding victory in the Champion of the Century.

Three points to finish second in their group positions by goal difference over Rosario Central and three below Atlético Mineiro, Peñarol’s next rival.
