Penalty Cards Piling Up: Which Soccer Team Has the Worst-Behaved Bench?

For several seasons now, members of the implementation teams on the clubs’ benches have been able to receive yellow cards. In this respect, the current year significantly surpasses all previous ones. People from the substitutes have already seen almost twice as many yellow cards as in the whole of last season. Is it just that the referees tightened the meter? And how do you explain that this statistic is dominated by Sparta, whose representatives have already received 10 yellow cards? Does Sparta currently have the worst-behaved bench in the league? This is also about the new episode of the Livesport Daily podcast, whose guest is sports reporter, football commentator and former referee in lower competitions Jan Suchan.

“I spoke to several people in the football environment and I asked about the behavior of people on the benches of individual teams. It is said to be more or less the most complicated with Sparta, Slavia and Slovácko. But absolutely everyone mentioned one name: Veliče Šumulikoski from Slovácko. There was even an expression of imbecile . It’s not an expression from my head, I’ve never met him personally, but his behavior during matches is really very, very bad. The last time during the match at Slavia, he made a throat-cutting gesture towards the home bench,” Jan Suchan is clear about who is in the worst behavior on the bench in Czech football.

The most frequently punished implementation team is at Letná. “Sparta in previous seasons could only do it, they were waiting for the title, it seemed like a not very close goal. But this year it is different, Sparta has to, expectations are high. Everyone in the club is certainly aware of this, so maybe the nervousness on the bench is also growing ,” thinks Suchan. “And of course it is reflected on the field. The players are not stupid and they perceive it. And I just thought that when the meeting between Preciad and Prisk was taking place, the player could actually say to his coach: Look at how you behave, ” he adds.

On the contrary, Slavia, whose bench was previously talked about as the worst, currently has only four yellow cards: “It is possible that there was some reflection within the club. It seems to me that things have calmed down a bit. I admit that I was surprised , that while other clubs have more cards, Slavia has no problem with this. And its greater discipline may play an important role in this year’s fight for the title,” concludes Suchan.
