Pascal Chanteur, president of the riders’ union, blames the riders’ equipment after the violent fall in the Tour of the Basque Country

In an interview with RMC Sport, the president of the riders’ union Pascal Chanteur did not hide his anger following this new fall: “I’m not talking about safety today. It’s been 5 or 6 years already.”

Singer points out the equipment made available to riders which he considers “so avant-garde, technological, because the bikes are more and more rigid and aero. We worked on the positions of the riders, the bikes, but today we see that we are providing them with increasingly narrow handlebars. Disc braking is a problem. On anticipatory braking, it’s wonderful. But as soon as you are in emergency braking and the instinct to save causes you to lock up, you immediately make a mistake because you retain grip.”
