Paris 2024 Olympic Games: athlete Just Kwaou-Mathey withdraws from the Games after rupturing an Achilles tendon

New blow for French athletics after Dimitri Bascou’s positive test at the start of the week. Just Kwaou-Mathey just announced this Friday that he had undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon in his Instagram story.

An injury that occurred during his preparation camp in Dubai. “The return begins now. Let’s work hard to be back stronger than ever,” wrote the reigning French 60m hurdles champion.

Four months before the Paris Olympic Games, this injury is at its worst and marks the withdrawal of Just Kwaou-Mathey, as the recovery time from a ruptured Achilles heel can be long. “I can face all difficulties thanks to Christ who gives me the strength,” the athlete wanted to say positively on Instagram. The Parisian had made the Paris Games a goal, he who had only gained strength in recent months.

Third at the European Championships over 110m hurdles in 2022, Kwaou-Mathey repeated last year over 60m in Istanbul. Recently, he won bronze over this same distance during the World Indoor Championships in 7″47 after setting a personal best at 7″43 at the Liévin meeting.

In the 110m hurdles, he set his personal best in 13″09 in June 2023. It was in Paris. The city where he will ultimately not shine this summer.
